Friday 31 August – at the appointed hour James, Karl and Jase all assembled at the meeting place… and eventually I rolled up… needed fuel and a smoke… so by about 6pm we were underway. A very boring trip straight up the freeway. Jase pulled over somewhere on the Federal to sort out some sound problems, and caught up to us at Sutton Forrest where we had stopped to feed the Fuelstorm…
Jase left us there (in typical fashion we stood around smoking and chatting for a while) and we eventually suited up and kept on going. I had directions to Brett’s place and managed to lead us there only taking one wrong turn (into a car park for some warehouse thing).
A few beers (well the boys had beers I had water) and pizza for tea and off to bed.
Saturday morning dawned bright and sunny… time for some riding! Brett led us off to Action Parramatta, where we collected Brendan on the ill-fated Hyosung, then off to Berowra to meet up with the rest of the crew. Get to the servo and there are just bikes everywhere, mind you there was three or four different groups, wasn’t all ours! I ran into a guy I know from KSRC which was cool, chatted about how good kwakas are for a while before they set off for a quick lap.
Eventually we were underway, off to Road Warriors for breakfast – egg and bacon rolls – yum! We sat around in the sun (it was like summer!) watching the world (read bikes bikes bikes) go by… a couple of guys went past on their back wheels… just as they touched down, copper rolls around the corner… indrawn breaths all round!
The decision was made to go to Wollumbi instead of Terrigal for the (so-called – Karl we’ll have to test this out when you’re on the new bike) best fish n chips on the coast. So off we went.
Had a good run up to Wollumbi, though what a bumpy road! The good sections make up for that though. Off the bike at Wollumbi to a message from Brett (our faithful “arse-end Arnold” – Brendan’s Hyosung had broken down and they were waiting for Bikebiz to come and collect it. After a quick drink and smoke at Wollumbi, we all turned around and headed back to where they were to wait for the rescue van… After what seemed hours and hours finally the rescue van turned up…. And went straight past us! Did they actually miss the 15 or so bikes parked along either side of the road? No matter, eventually they returned and in two seconds flat the Hyo was in the van, and Brendan was being chauffer back to Sydney.
We continued onto Wiseman’s Ferry Road where I decided to be patient and NOT overtake the dude I was behind straight away… bad move…anyway… so a very frustrating run into Wiseman’s, fuelled up, stopped at the pub there before heading back into Sydney and over to the Mean Fiddler for the coffee meet with the rest of the Sydney Crew and to catch up with Micky. Jase eventually joined us there, as did Keir on the new CBR 600 F4i that he had just picked up. Ever seen a bigger smile on someone’s face? Perhaps mine last year when I picked up the old 6 LOL.
After much gasbagging, Jase and Keir went their own ways, James had to head back to Canberra so Karl and I followed Brett back to his place (and we went past Hooters! We so should have stopped there…).
The next morning it was kinda grey but no rain =) Brett led us out some of the way, stopped for fuel then we were on our own, heading for the Nasho =)
We had been messaging and trying to call Jase without success. Stopped at the start of the Nasho, still no luck so a quick message was left to say we’d stop at the other end for coffee and wait for him there.
I believe Karl had a good run through the nasho… he must of cuz once we got into the twisties he was gooooooooorn! LOL I had a good run too, no one in front, no one behind… We stopped at Bald Hill, hot as, and bikes bikes bikes as far as the eye could see! Hot dogs and coke were the go – too hot for coffee. Jase turned up and we then set off down the coast, heading for Mac Pass.
Good run up Mac pass and stopped in at the pie shop for coffee. By this time the flu was really starting to catch up with me, I felt terrible. The short run from Robertson to Moss Vale where I had to refuel was torture, so I decided that I’d just jump on the freeway and scoot back into Canberra that way. Jase, Karl and I were together for a little while but we all got separated, so all made our own way back into town.
All in all a great weekend, awesome roads and fantastic company!
